Difficulty Scale

Discovery

There is no previous experience necessary. You can expect to be walking for up to 6 hours on a mix of maintained trails with some rocky sections. For snowshoeing we stay mainly on used trails sometimes venturing off into fresh snow. If you are reasonably fit or go for walks at the weekend you can manage this level of trip. The focus is on the journey not the challenge.

Adventurous

You should expect a 5-8 hour day with some significant ascents and descents over 1000m. Some parts of the day will be spent on rougher trails that can be vague at times. For skiing you need to be happy skiing off piste in a variety of snow conditions to take the most away from the course. You need to be reasonably fit, but above all else up for the adventure.

Challenging

It is recommended that you have joined us for a previous trip, or completed a similar trip with another company, or are a regular walker/recreational skier/mountaineer. For trekking you can expect consecutive 7-10 hour days with significant ascents and descents over 1000m. For skiing you need to be confident in skiing off piste in a variety of terrain and in control. For mountaineering you have to be prepared for 7-9hours at high altitude sometimes in severe weather. All trips at this level require good levels of fitness and confidence in your abilities. We often need to keep a consistent pace in order to complete certain itineraries, and you must be prepared to push yourself if needs be.

Extreme

It is recommended that you have joined us for a previous trip, completed a similar trip with another company, or are a regular walker/recreational skier/mountaineer. For trekking you can expect consecutive 7-10 hour days with significant ascents and descents over 1000m on rugged and ill defined trails, often carrying heavier back packs and in a more remote and exposed environment. For skiing you need to be confident in skiing off piste in a variety of terrain and in control. For mountaineering you have to be prepared for 7-11 hours at high altitude sometimes in severe weather. All trips at this level require good levels of fitness and confidence in your abilities.

We often need to keep at a consistent pace in order to complete certain itineraries, and you must be prepared to push yourself if needs be. On expeditions we will be immersed in another culture where food, customs and attitudes are very different from our own. You need to be prepared to be flexible with logistical hurdles and happy with tough conditions regarding both accommodation and on the mountain.
